The Steps to Perfection 2nd grade curriculum strives to build upon the development of a strong Islamic foundation, which began in the kindergarten book. The ʿAqāʾid section entails a review of the the Uṣūl ad-Dīn (Roots of Religion), and then further explores the tenets of Nabūwwah and Imāmah. It also features an introduction to the importance of learning the Qurʾān. The Fiqh unit consists of relevant topics, with integrated activities, to make the concepts more interactive, tangible, and practical for students. The History section continues to introduce the Maʿṣūmīn through stories that highlight their characteristics, in hopes that children will be able to connect to them and develop a bond and unfaltering love that will take root in their hearts. In second grade, the students learn about the last seven Maʿṣūmīn (ʿa). The Akhlāq section has been made aesthetically-pleasing through colorful illustrations, aḥādīth, and āyāt from the Qurʾān that delve into topics such as speaking etiquette and manners toward others.
The teacher’s guides for each lesson include vocabulary with definitions, talking points, suggestive learning aids, and worksheet placements.
